I often have requests for information on books and supplies that I like and
use.
|
| I got this book for Christmas, it's great! She has a very different technique the involves laying down colors in a special order, yellow to blue/purple. | Beautiful work! | I cut the wheel out of this book and have it hanging up right in front of my drafting table. I use it during almost every painting! It gives a great deal of information on why paint behaves the way it does. Helps to keep the "muddies" away. | This is the first watercolor book that really helped me! Great instructions, very good examples and illustrations of techniques. |
| Wonderful technique and use of paint.. and if you get her video, her accent is fun to listen to, too!. | I am in awe of his textures and shadows on white. I can't tell you how many times I have referenced this book. About the best one out there for textures. (check out his website if you aren't familar with his work.) And Oh! his moons! | The classic on watercolor portraits. Even if you don't do portraits, it can help with color theory and exploring techniques. | Another classic! |
| Paper: I use Arches #140 Cold Press in blocks almost exclusively. I have a big roll of it, but I don't think it is quite the same. Paper is very personal, and what you use can depend on how and what you paint. Try to get at least #140 paper, any thing less will buckle under washes. |
| Watercolor Paint: One of each, please! I love paint, and will try anything new I see. The main stays are Winsor- Newton, Daniel Smith, and M.Grahm. There are many other good brands, just be sure to get artist quality, and not student grade. The difference is in the amount of pigment. You will just frustrate yourself with student grade, and have to relearn how the paint reacts once you move to artist quality. |
